Caged-Bird Inspired Piece

We all have our own cages.
For some people, it's their job,
relationships,
debt,
family,
expectations,
disabilities,
and even themselves.
Cages are not just physical bars restricting you.
Cages can be extremely mental.
When you feel caged in,
you also feel small.
Helpless.
But the thing about being caged,
is there's always a way out.
Note; I said a way out.
Not an easy way out.
But that't the beauty of it all.
It's not easy,
but struggle helps us grow.
So no matter what's caging you,
Just push through.

  1. I think your poem is really well thought out. You seemed to consider not only the struggles you might be going through, but also the struggles you do not, and might never, know. I very much like the hopeful yet realistic ending of your piece. People either seem to become hopeless about their problems or act as though there is an easy solution. You strike a lovely balance. Your assertion that the fact that we will struggle to get ourselves free of our cages helps us grow as people. Not enough people are able to look at the hard times in their lives and value them for the growth they were given.

  2. Excellent distinction here:

"Note; I said a way out.
    Not an easy way out."

I've found what you said about pushing through to be quite true, even in times I thought I couldn't. I obviously did!
